Varanasi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will visit Ravidas temple in Seer Gowardhanpur area on Sunday and attend celebrations on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas.
Thousands of followers of Sant Ravidas attend celebrations organised at his birthplace Seer Gowardhanpur every year. The district administration and police are working on arrangements to ensure a comfortable stay for the pilgrims.
Senior Congress leader Ajay Rai said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will reach LBS International Airport at 12.10pm. “She will head to Ravidas Temple from the airport to offer prayers. She would also meet Mahant Niranjan Das.”
She would return to Delhi the same day.
Before Priyanka, her brother and former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi had also visited Ravidas temple in November 2011. In 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had offered prayers at the same temple on the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti.
Meanwhile, followers of the Sant Ravidas continued to pour in the city till late Saturday. Devotees had started arriving in the city a week ago from states like Punjab and even other countries.
A number of such pilgrims are staying in giant tents put up near the temple, while langars (community feasts) were also organised throughout the day on Saturday.
ADG (Varanasi zone) Brij Bhushan, IG (Varanasi range) VS Mina and other officials took stock of the security arrangements. District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma visted the temple again on Saturday to inspect the arrangements. He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply to the area.
