The former LA Laker and his daughter were reportedly on their way to Mamba Academy near Thousand Oaks, California, for basketball practice, when the crash occurred.

NBA legend Kobe Bryant's death has sure shocked the entire world and the memorial service for the star basketball player and the other eight people who were killed in the helicopter crash will take place on February 24.

Bryant died in a helicopter crash and along with him was his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, who was also a budding hoopster.

According to the latest CNN reports, the service will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The number 2/24 held great significance in Kobe's career as the late LA Lakers star donned the number 24 jersey during the later stages of his playing career and his daughter Gianna also picking the number two in the youth basketball teams.

A total of nine people were on board the aircraft when it crashed near Calabasas, around 48 km north-west of downtown Los Angeles, in foggy weather. According to reports, the crash ignited brushfires, making it hard for rescue crews to get close to the site.

He is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and three daughters — Natalia, (17), Bianka, (3), and 7-month-old Capri.
