LUDHIANA: A farmer died in a road accident near
Garhi bridge close to
Machhiwara on Thursday evening after returning from protest against government over
stray cattle menace. The deceased was identified as 53-years-old Pritpal Singh a farmer of Jhaad Sahib, who was member of
Bhartiya Kissan Union (BKU) Lakhowal.
As per reports, Pritpal had loaded stray cattle in his tractor trolley and had come to Ludhiana to drop those at
Mini Secretariat on Thursday as a mark of protest against the stray cattle menace. After participating in the protest, he was on way to his village by taking the road on the side of Sirhind canal in the evening.
Police officials said that near Garhi Bridge, a speeding truck hit the tractor of the deceased after which it rolled over. They added that Pritpal suffered serious injuries in the accident and was rushed to a private hospital in Ludhiana where he breathed his last in few hours.
Cops said that police has booked the truck driver Sumandeep Singh of Fatehpur in Chamkaur Sahib for causing death due to negligence among other sections.
