Rape survivor gets death threat inside police station

Ghaziabad: A 24-year-old rape survivor has alleged that a brother of the accused in the case gave her a death threat inside Vijaynagar police station, demanding her to change her statement, on Thursday.
Police had called her to record her statement. “The man (elder brother of the accused) started threatening me with dire consequences if I didn’t change my statement,” she said.
The woman said she was allegedly raped by three persons, including a liquor mafia, on October 12, 2019.
She told TOI: “The incident happened when I was sleeping inside my house. My husband had gone to the office at that time. Suddenly, three people — Ramkumar alias Moni, a liquor mafia, Saddam and Ali — barged inside the house and raped me. One accused hit me with heavy metal on the head after which I fell unconscious.”
She continued: “When my sister-in-law came home from shopping, the accused fled the spot and also threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. My husband went to lodge a complaint against the men but the police refused to take up the case. We moved the court on November 21, 2019. The police then lodged a case but did not take any action.”
However, Ramkumar alias Moni was arrested on Wednesday after she approached the then SSP.
SP (city) Manish Kumar Mishra said he did not get any complaint but will send a team to check the matter. “I will appoint some police officers for her safety and no-one is allowed to force the victim to change her/his statement,” he said.
