HYDERABAD: The nine-month-long ordeal finally came to an end for the families of the victims with the fast-track court sentencing
Marri Srinivas Reddy to death on Thursday. "We want to see his body" was the common refrain of the families.
The villagers as well as the sarpanch gathered under a neem tree around 9am on Thursday to hear the fast-track court announce the verdict.
The families of the victims hoped for nothing less than the death sentence.
The court announced the conviction at 1pm, but the final verdict was given around 6.30pm. The villagers erupted in joy once the sentence was announced. They hoped that now the three minor girls, who were raped and murdered by Srinivas Reddy, will now rest in peace.
"We are happy with the court verdict, but we will be satisfied only on the day when Srinivas Reddy is hanged," one of the victim's mother told TOI.
"For the last nine months, we have been waiting patiently for this day. Srinivas Reddy deserves to be hanged for the crime he committed. My daughter was very interested in studies," the father of one of the victims said. His daughter, while returning from college, was lured by Srinivas Reddy who offered her a lift. However, he took her to an agriculture field where he raped and murdered her before burying the body in a well. During investigation, police recovered her skeletal remains.
