Goa assembly passes Goa Pvt Universities Bill

PANAJI: Goa legislative assembly on Friday passed the Goa Private Universities Bill, 2020, that will allow institutes affiliated to private universities to set up campuses in the state.


In his budget speech, chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday had spelled out his plan to make Goa an education hub.


At present, the state has just one university- Goa University. Setting up of a university, the Bill states, will be allowed upon fulfillment of certain conditions such as the sponsoring body will be required to create a permanent endowment fund of at least Rs 5 crore, own the land, building and infrastructure facilities required for establishing a university, appoint at least one professor.
