Goa: Police force to get three new stations, over 1,000 new recruits

PANAJI: Chief minister Pramod Sawant announced the setting up of three new police stations and recruitment of 1,200 police personnel to strengthen the police force, besides construction of police staff quarters at Porvorim and Fatorda. An integrated inspection plaza will also be set up to check the quality of goods, he said.
Speaking about the crime rate in the state, which has come down to 10.4%, Sawant said this was due to the various preventive measure adopted.
To further strengthen the law and order machinery, he said he proposed to upgrade the forensic science laboratory and set up new police stations at Quepem, Maina-Curtorim and Sanguem, besides recruiting about 1,200 police personnel through the newly constituted Goa Staff Selection Commission.
In addition, the police force will be equipped with the latest machinery and allied infrastructure. “I also propose to construct high-rise buildings consisting of 224 ‘B’ type quarters at Porvorim and 42 ‘B’ type quarters at Arlem, Margao, for police personnel,” he said. To maintain quality control, the chief minister proposed an integrated inspection plaza at all major entry points into the state.
