A swooping drone captured the breathtaking moment a pod of dolphins hit the waves alongside a skilled surfer. 

Drone pilot Craig Badger, 52, was lucky to capture the stunning footage while he was out and about. 

Noticing the waves were particularly high along the coast, Craig decided to stop off in Ventura, California, northwest of Los Angeles, in order to do some filming.

The dolphins start swimming alongside the surfer, named by ABC7 Los Angeles as Thousand Oaks firefighter, Alden Blair, near to Ventura. 

At one point three dolphins swim alongside Blair, keeping pace. 

Blair can't seem to believe his luck and punches the air in appreciation of his new found surfing buddies. 

On Instagram, fellow surfers and non-surfers, shared their appreciation of the once-in-a-lifetime footage.
