Kokrajhar lit up on eve of PM Modi visit to celebrate Bodo Accord

GUWAHATI: The streets of Kokrajhar and homes of the residents were lit up with thousands of earthen lamps on the eve of PM Narendra Modi's visit to the western Assam town to commemorate the signing of the Bodo Accord, which has finally brought down the curtains on the Bodo campaign for separatism and militancy spanning over more than three decades.
On Friday, Modi will attend a thanksgiving rally organized by the people in Kokrajhar, located about 220 km away from Guwahati. More than four lakh people are expected to attend the gathering.
This will be Modi's first visit to Assam after the anti-CAA protests started in the state.
"Tomorrow, I look forward to being in Assam. I will be in Kokrajhar to address a public meeting. We will mark the successful signing of the Bodo Accord, which brings to an end a problem that had been persisting for decades. It marks the start of a new era of peace and progress," Modi tweeted.
The powerful All Bodo Students' Union (Absu), one of the signatories to the Accord and the bridge between all sections of people of Bodo community, took out a bike rally in Kokrajhar to spread the word about Modi's visit. Absu president Pramod Boro said, "If we are determined and have a positive outlook, we can solve our problems and bring in peace. This is the message that will go out form here tomorrow."
