Illegal arms factory busted, one arrested

Shaukeen told police that he was employed by two other men
Greater Noida: An alleged illegal arms manufacturing factory was busted in Dhoom Manikpur village in Badlapur area of Greater Noida on Wednesday night and one person was arrested with 20 weapons, including rifles and country-made revolvers.
Police said that the arrested person, Shaukeen, is a native of Kithore in Meerut district.
He was apparently arrested after Badlapur police followed a tip off on the operation of the factory and raided its premise.
Shaukeen’s two other accomplices, Waseem and Jabbar, who are also from Meerut, managed to escape, said a police officer.
Harish Chander, the DCP of Central Noida told TOI that the factory was set up just around 15 days ago.
“It seemed that a large consignment was being manufactured that included four single barrel rifles of 12 bore, one .32 bore revolver along with 16 country-made pistols of .315 bore. Apart from this, the accused was heard saying that more weapons of 12 bore were to being made in the morning,” said the police officer.
DCP Chandra added that the police team jumped off the balcony to enter the factory where a furnace was set up for melting pipes to further convert them into various weapons.
“We also recovered a drill machine along with other tools. Shaukeen has confessed that he was hired to manufacture guns by two other men, who are absconding. Shaukeen said the two managed the demand and supply,” said the police officer.
Police are on a lookout for the absconding men in order to get to the supply chain, said Chandra.
“All three men are history sheeters from Meerut and have been to jail on multiple occasions in the past. The arrested accused has confessed that he met the other two in 2003 in jail after being held for a dacoity in Delhi. While Waseem has 10 cases of rioting, street crimes, cheating and attempt to murder against him, Jabbar is named in 22 cases,” said Chander, adding that the criminal history of Shaukeen is being gathered.
“It is possible that the weapons were to be supplied in the neighbouring villages where the panchayat elections are scheduled in coming months. Teams have been formed to arrest the remaining accused,” the police officer added.
All three have been booked under sections 3/5/25 of the Arms Act.
The arrested person was produced in a district court on Thursday that sent him to jail.
