Haryana: Court drops sedition charge filed against 57 Jat agitators

PANCHKULA: The special CBI court in Panchkula on Thursday dropped sedition and Arms Act charges against 57 accused in the case pertaining to violence during Jat reservation agitation in Haryana.
The CBI had named over 60 accused in the case of violence and arson at former Haryana finance minister Captain Abhimanyu’s house in Rohtak during the February 2016 quota protest, but some of the accused were not present in the court on Thursday.
While the CBI court orders were not uploaded on the official website till late Thursday evening, defence counsel Satish Kadian, while confirming the development, said the court has dropped attempt to murder and Arms Act charges.
Kadian also said the court had framed rioting, attempt to murder and other charges against 57 accused in the case. The charges against the remaining accused will be framed on the next date of court hearing on February 12, he added.
