The Central Government has announced that the Governor is free to decide on the acquittal of Rajiv Gandhi case accused- Perarivalan.

As per sources, the Central Government has said that the Governor of Tamilnadu has all the powers to decide on the release of Perarivalan, who is currently serving life imprisonment in former PM Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case.
However, the Central Government has re-iterated that another convict Nalini's plea cannot be considered.
Earlier, a online campaign to free Perarivalan was also launched in Facebook and Twitter, by the Human Rights Activists.
