Hubballi: The protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the
National Register of Citizens (
NRC) spearheaded by Anjuman-e-Islam, Hubballi entered its 12th day on Thursday.
The protesters have been sitting in a dharna in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha for four days a week, urging the
central government to repeal CAA and NRC. Former corporator of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) and vice-president of Anjuman-e-Islam Altaf Nawaz Kittur said that their protest would continue till the Centre yielded to their request. “CAA and NRC are anti-constitutional and they attempt to divide society on the lines of religion. These laws threaten the communal harmony of Indian society,” Kittur told TOI.
Pointing out that residents from across the twin cities had been participating in the protest, he added, “So far, people from nearly 60 localities have participated in the protest, and will only intensify in the coming days. We are expecting more people to join the protest.” he
Mohammad Yusuf Savnur, president of Anjuman-e-Islam, MA Pathan, AM Hindasgiri, SIkandar Basha, Syed Ahmed Sargiro, Khawaja Mainodin Maniyar, Fazlu Kalebudde, Munna Marker and Ashfaq Kumtakar were among those who participated in the protest on Thursday.
