45-yr-old man posing as Army officer arrested in Ahmednagar

PUNE/AHMEDNAGAR: A 45-year-old man has been arrested in Ahmednagar for allegedly wearing a Army uniform and impersonating as an officer. 

The local police and Southern Command Liaison Unit (Military Intelligence) nabbed him at Maliwada Bus stand, Ahmednagar on Wednesday night. 

An FIR was registered with Kotwali police station against the suspect Sanjay Vithoba Patil, for offences under section 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) and other sections related to forgery under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

According to the FIR, around 10.30 pm Patil was found in Army combat uniform (of Lt Colonel rank) with medals at the bus stand. He was detained and a search led to the recovery of one dummy air pistol with 40 rounds dummy, combat uniform with medals, ribbons, Lt Col rank of Mechanised Infantry Regiment, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) commendation card, Major rank badge, CHM wrist band etc. Also, a large number of fake documents along with his photos in the rank of Maj Gen and Havildar were also recovered. The police also seized five smartphones, five sim cards and six debit cards. 

An officer said, “We are investigating all possibilities. At this stage, the motive is not clear as to why he has got Army uniforms and so many phones.”
