Puducherry legal services authority to hold lok adalat to settle 4,347 pending cases

PUDUCHERRY: The Union Territory of Puducherry Legal Services Authority (UTPLSA) will hold a lok adalat at at the integrated court complex on February 8. It will start at 10am.
The authority will also hold lok adalats in Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam courts on the same day. It has constituted eight benches at integrated court complex and a bench each at UTPLSA, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam to hold Lok Adalats.
The authority will take up criminal compoundable cases, cheque bounce cases, cases related to motor accidents claims' tribunal and matrimonial and family courts. It will also take up cases related to labour disputes and civil rights.
The authority organised the adalat following a direction from Supreme Court judge Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, who is also the national legal services authority executive chairman and Madras high court judge justice R Subbiah, who is the UTPLSA executive chairman.
The authority proposes to take up 4,347 cases pending before various courts in the Union territory during the lok adalats. UTPLSA member secretary V Sofana Devi appealed to the litigant public to utilise the opportunity to settle the pending cases amicably.
