PUNE: MahaMetro released the designs of metro stations on Thursday, in which they assured the designs will be pedestrian-friendly and would have connectivity with skywalks, escalators, lifts and other connecting infrastructure that would be beneficial for commuters and citizens.

MahaMetro officials said that only the platform level of the metro would be a gated entry for bonafide commuters and the other levels of metro stations can be used by citizens. MahaMetro will be constructing 31 stations on Pimpri-Swargate and Vanaaz-Ramwadi corridor.

Overall, 121 lifts and 165 escalators will be installed at these stations. Officials said that the concourse level can be used by commuters as fly-overs to cross to the other side of the road.

MahaMetro Managing Director Brijesh Dixit said that the stations will be world-class and Mahametro will also go through various quality certifications.

“The stations’ infrastructure will also be tapped to generate solar power. The stations will reflect the culture of Pune,” added Dixit.

The first trial run of the Pune Metro was recently conducted at the Sant Tukaram Nagar station of the Pune Metro Line 1 Pimpri-Swargate. Dixit said that they will soon apply for clearance from Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Indian Railways Board and other authorities, post which they can start the commercial run of the metro.
