1. Young Modi wanted to join the army

In childhood, Narendra Modi dreamt of serving in the Indian Army. He wanted to study at Sainik School near Jamnagar, but could not attend due to a lack of money to pay fees at home.

When most teenagers think about their careers at the age of 17, Narendra Modi decided to leave home to travel across India. He joined the BJP in 1987, the same year when the BJP won the Ahmedabad Municipal Election, and since then he has never lost a Municipal Election in Ahmedabad. In the 2000 Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation elections, the BJP lost, ironically, at the time when Narendra Modi was out of Gujarat.
