Gurgaon: The 148 students of
World College of Medical Sciences and Research in Jhajjar heaved a sigh of relief as the Punjab and Haryna high court ordered their transfer to some other private
medical college in the state.
These students, the first batch of the college, took admission in 2016 for a four-year
MBBS course, and the same year, the Medical Council of India refused to grant recognition to the college. Since then, the
college has been barred from enrolling any more students.
Anxious about the future of their
education and worried if they will even receive a valid degree at the end if their course, these students moved court in 2018 seeking recognition for their college or provisions in other recognized colleges.
Thursday’s order that comes is a welcome move for these third year students, states, “…as the state government is willing to take over the responsibility of 148 students admitted in the College and in discharge of that responsibility the said students would be shifted to other recognised institutes in the State of Haryana. However, the students cannot be shifted to a Government/Government Aided Medical College. They would be shifted to other recognised private Medical Colleges i.e. Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Mullana and SGT Medical College, Gurgaon.”
The court directed the state government to consider reimbursing the students if the college the students are transferred to have a higher fee structure.
A student, Yogita Yadav, said, “We got admission to this college through the Haryana government council. After completion of our first year we were told that the college has been barred by the MCI from admitting any fresh batch. We are happy with the decision.” Dr Nityanand, the college director, denied having received any court order in regarding the matter. “I haven't received any court order,” said Dr Nityanand.
