Greater Noida: MG Motors has taken the wraps off the Gloster at the Auto Expo. Gloster is a full-sized SUV that will go against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Alturas and Ford Endeavour. The car is impressive in terms of size, one important aspect that buyers look for in this segment. The Gloster is bigger than both Fortuner and Endeavour at the same time the company is expected to price it extremely competitively as was the case with MG Hector. The car is expected to launch by the end of this year or early next year.
The full-size SUV is based on MG Motor’s parent company’s Maxus D90. It comes with three rows of seats. The massive proportions of the car are amplified by its imposing stance and gaping grill that covers the front of the car. The tailgate features more chrome work and a massive Gloster logo at the bottom.
MG showcased the car with 19-inch diamond cut alloy wheels which adds to its road presence. In terms of engine options the car is expected to get the same powertrain as the D90 in China. It comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 220 bhp and comes with a peak torque of 360 Nm. In terms of dimensions, the Gloster has a length of 5005 mm, width of 1932 mm and height of 1875 mm. For reference, the Fortuner has a length of 4795mm.
The petrol engine will either be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission. The MG Gloster also gets a bi-turbo diesel engine that churns out 212 bhp power and yields a torque of 480 Nm. The diesel engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
MG did not reveal the interiors of the car but one can expect a lot more goodies in comparison to the MG Hector. Going by the example of Hector, the Gloster is expected to punch well above its weight in terms of features and the value for money it will offer.
MG also unveiled the G10 MPV at the Auto Expo. The G10 will be going against the recently launched Kia Carnival and Toyota Innova Crysta. Just like Gloster, G10 also exceeds its rivals in terms of size.
