25 yoga teachers return to Mysuru from coronavirus-hit China

DM Rajashekara Murthy works as a yoga instructor in Xiamen
Twenty-five yoga teacher s from Mysuru reportedly returned to Mysuru in two batches in the weekend after the outbreak of coronavirus in China. However, the district health officer denied having any information of such arrivals.
The presence of China returnees in the city has raised eyebrows since the health department on Tuesday issued an advisory to students against travelling to and from Kerala after it confirmed three cases of coronavirus. Hundreds of students from Kerala are studying in Mysuru's nursing an d engineering colleges.
The yoga teachers said they arrived at the Bengaluru airport from Xiamen, a city on China's southeast coast, via Thailand on February 1 and 2. They underwent the mandatory medical examination and thermal screening for coronavirus. "Since no passengers showed any symptoms of fever, cough or cold, we were allowed to go home," a teacher said. Eight of them are from the temple town of Nanjangud in Mysuru district.
Mysuru district health officer R Venkatesh said he wasn't aware of any such arrivals since the outbreak of coronavirus. "Eighteen students from University of Mysore who are in China have been asked to postpone their return journey," he added.
Despite the health scare, the teachers are planning to go back to China once they get clearance. "The local government in China helped us after the coronavirus outbreak. They distributed masks and educated us about the issue," said yoga teacher DM Rajashekara Murthy, 35, who returned to his home in Devirammanahalli village, Nanjanagud.
Murthy has been teaching yoga in China's Xiamen for seven years. He said many Kannadigas are stuck in Wuhan, epicentre of the outbreak.
"I left Xiamen on February 1 and arrived in Bengaluru the next day via a Thai Airwa ys flight. After medical exam and thermal scanning, I was asked about my recent travel history. Officials asked me if I had visited Wuhan," he said.
The health department has asked tour operators and hotel owners to submit details of foreign visitors arri ving in Mysuru.
