Maruti Suzuki has revealed the BS6-compliant S-Cross petrol crossover in India at Auto Expo 2020. The crossover's new K15B motor will also be available with a mild hybrid system. Although the exterior and interior remains unchanged, the K15 engine is likely to contribute to lower noise, vibration, and harshness levels compared with the previous 1.3-litre oil burner. The petrol S-Cross will renew its rivalries with the Hyundai Creta and Renault Captur.
With 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque, the K15 motor makes more power but less torque than the 1.3-litre diesel. We’ll only know how the engine performs after our road test, but linear and smooth power delivery are its strong points. The standard gearbox is likely to be a 5-speed manual transmission but an automatic variant is likely to be launched subsequent to the former's launch.
When it was first launched, the S-Cross was available with either a 1.3-litre or 1.6-litre diesel engine. The latter was the enthusiast's choice, but it was discontinued in the facelifted S-Cross.
The trusty Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre engine didn’t make for a slouchy S-Cross, but it did lack the refinement which this well-insulated Maruti deserved. The K15 is likely to make the cabin a nicer place to be in. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is also working on a BS6 1.5-litre diesel engine which is expected to be launched next year.
