The Tamil Nadu CB-CID sleuths detained a village administrative officer (VAO), recruited in 2016, in connection with the TNPSC scam on Thursday. The investigators suspect that the VAO test conducted that year was also rigged.

The police have not ruled out the possibility of more people getting selected as VAOs after paying cash to agents like Jayakumar.
The CB-CID has already arrested 32 persons in connection with the 2019 group 4, and 2017 group 2A TNPSC examination scams. More people who might joined the service after agents are under CBCID scanner.
Meanwhile, the CB-CID team questioned Omkanthan, a TNPSC staff arrested last week for allegedly helping agent Jayakumar take answer sheets from a van while transporting them from Rameswaram examination centre to Chennai. Omkanthan is now in police custody. A court had sanctioned 4 days custody of Omkanthan to the investigators on Wednesday.
As Jayakumar, the master brain behind the TNPSC scams, has surrendered before a court on Thursday, CB-CID sleuths will be able to get a bigger picture about the modus operandi and the kind of money involved in the scam.
Police teams had already carried out searches in the house of Jayakumar and seized laptops and other digital dossiers from there.
Sources said that the detained VAO allegedly gave Rs 15 lakh to Jayakumar, the main suspect who surrendered before the court on Thursday, to get the VAO post. The investigation agency is also probing at least five others who joined as VAOs in the same year after attending the examination held in February, 2016.
