The Central Government has announced that the Governor is free to decide on the acquittal of Rajiv Gandhi case accused- Perarivalan.

Chennai: As per sources, the Central Government has said that the Governor of Tamilnadu has all the powers to decide on the release of Perarivalan, who is serving life imprisonment in former PM Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case. Perarivalan has filed mercy petition before the Governor 2 years ago.
However the Central Government has re-iterated that another convict Nalini's plea cannot be considered.
