PATHANKOT : To develop
adventure tourism in the sub mountainous ranges of Pathankot district bordering
Himachal Pradesh ,Punjab government has set up a camp site amid serene and secluded
Dhar forest overlooking Ranjit Sagar lake while aiming to take its share of tourists going to Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh.
“This forest has a pristine beauty which so far has been protected from human depredation. The lake front offers a great picturesque for the nature lovers” said divisional forest officer, Pathankot
Sanjeev Tiwari while talking to TOI on Thrusday .
He informed that the project titled ‘
Nature Awareness Camp’ would be dedicated to the people of Punjab on Friday.
As against the common perception that Punjab lacks good forest , Dhar forest was covered with variety of tree species and has a good amount of wildlife, said a prominent hotelier of the region Deepak Kumar Maini .
Stating that thousands of tourists visits Dalhousie every week during summer times, Maini who himself runs a resort on Dalhousie road said the camp could attract a number of them to stay back for a day or two which would help in the development of area.
Another businessman Ravinderpal Singh Walia who is developing Mango island in Ranjit Sagar lake said “ though late but the project is a boon for the nature lovers it is a paradise for bird watching. During the winter months every year thousands of migratory birds from China, Siberia, Afghanistan and Pakistan visit the Ranjit Sagar reservoir
Located in the village Chamrod near Dhar Kalan village , the Nature Awareness Camp would also have a nature trail to give visitors an opportunity to closely observe the Dhar ecosystem and would also provide job opportunities for the local youth who could be developed as tourist guides.
