HRD committee visits AU, invites complaints against ex-VC Hangloo

Allahabad: A three-member committee constituted by the ministry of human resources development to probe allegations of irregularities against Allahabad University’s (AU) former vice-chancellor RL Hangloo visited the the varsity’s campus on Thursday.
Headed by IGNOU vice-chancellor Nageshwar Rao, the team visited various departments including the biochemistry department, central library and the Vizanagram Hall. The team returned the same day. INGNTU VC Prakash Mani Tripathi and vice-chancellor of Gujarat Central University Rama Shankar Dubey were the other of members of the team.
The panel met AU’s officiating vice-chancellor RR Tewari for a closed-door 20-minute meeting.
In a brief interaction with the media, the team members said that AU registrar NK Shukla has been appointed the nodal officer of the inquiry committee. “Whosoever has any complaint or allegation related to any irregularity can submit the same to the nodal officer along with supporting documents,” they added.
A notification issued by AU registrar NK Shukla on Thursday stated that anyone with a complain against Hangloo can submit the same at the registrar’s office by February 16. The notification also says that the inquiry committee finds any substance in the allegations, they will also schedule an appointment with the complainant for clarification.
However, the appointment of the registrar as the nodal officer of the inquiry committee did raise some questions among the faculty members. Many teachers questioned the move as there Shukla’s appointment as the AU registrar is steeped in several allegations.
Reacting to the questions, Rao said, “It was the decision of the ministry to appoint the registrar as the nodal officer. Our inquiry will be least affected by the fact that who is taking care of the logistics. Our contact details are already available in the public domain and anyone can send us a complaint with supporting enclosures.”
The team members also said that they can again visit AU over the next few days and would request the government to extend the deadline for submitting their report which presently a month. They said that their report would include recommendations made National Commission for Women and how well AU has implemented them.
