Morris Garages India has officially unveiled the much anticipated 6-seater version of the MG Hector in India. The SUV has been christened MG Hector Plus, and it is the first three-row SUV from China's SAIC-owned British car brand. The Hector Plus will be offered only in both 6- and 7-seater cabin layout, with the latter featuring captain seats in the second row. MG says there will be a 7-seater version as well but it's likely to be revealed at the time of the launch. Speaking of launch, the Hector Plus will come sometime in early second half of 2020, which would imply June or July 2020.

Despite two additional seats squeezed in the last row, the wheelbase of the MG Hector Plus remains the same 2750 mm, however, the length is said to have been increased by about 40 mm to 4695 mm. The width and height remains the same 1835 mm and 1760 mm, respectively. The regular MG Hector itself is the longest among all compact SUVs in India (even the Tata Harrier) with the longest footprint as well.

The MG Hector Plus comes with updated exterior styling, especially an new face with less chrome element giving its much more classier look

Visually, the exterior of the MG Hector Plus comes with minor changes, especially, the front section. The chrome border around the grille has gone and you only get a neat, glossy black grille, flanked by a set of new LED daytime running lamps. The headlamps have also been updated and the new ones look much nicer now, and the plastic cladded bumper has replaced by a body coloured one. However, it continues to get the 17-inch wheels which still look small for the SUV because of the wide, boxy wheel arches and at least this time the company could have gone with bigger wheels.

MG hasn't revealed the cabin of the SUV but in terms of features, we expect the SUV to borrow the creature comforts and connected car tech from the 5-seater version, with the vertically stacked 10.4-inch touchscreen unit. The seats, of course, come wrapped in brown faux leather (top-end variant) and we also got to see new matching leather inserts on the dashboard. The three-row Hector will also come with the company iSmart connected car system with all the features that the regular Hector offers.

Powertrain wise, the Hector Plus comes with the same Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel and 1.5-litre mild-hybrid motors from the Hector mated to a six-speed manual gearbox while DCT could be given as an option on the 1.5-litre mild-hybrid engine.
