Man mistaken as pickpocket, thrashed at Deoria Mahotsav

Gorakhpur: A man was thrashed by some people at Deoria Mahotsav venue on suspicion of pickpocket, on Wednesday late evening. Police have lodged an FIR against unidentified assailants in this connection. The man was admitted to BRD Medical College.
The mahotsav formally concluded on Tuesday, however, some shops are still doing business at the venue.
According to reports, Tayyab Ansari (35) of Ahmad Nagar Mohalla under Kotwali police station limit went to Deoria Mahotsav on Wednesday evening where some people started beating him calling him a pickpocket. Someone alerted the police following which the police rescued him.
“On the complaint of Tayyab, an FIR has been lodged against unidentified assailants and a probe has been launched. The man was admitted to district hospital on Thursday from where he was referred to BRD Medical College,” SHO Kotwali TJ Singh said. tnn
