Cappadocia has become a popular destination worldwide in recent years due to its famous underground cities and its “fairy chimney” volcanic cones, hot air balloon trips along with houses, churches and chapels carved into rocks, and shelters used during the early years of the Christian faith.
Balloon tours made an annual contribution to the economy of 33 million Euros in 2016, 43 million Euros in 2017 and 70 million Euros in 2018. Balloon tours brought in approximately 43 million Euros in the first six months of 2019.
Last year, the Turkish Parliament also approved a bill aiming to protect the historic fabric of the region.
