VADODARA: Muslim community leader
Zuber Gopalani has apologized for the objectionable post he shared on his
Twitter account in December last year. Gopalani had in that post, which was deleted later, asked for boycott of some doctors who supported the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register for Citizens (NRC). The post had accused the doctors of being communal.
Gopalani and two others were booked by the cops on December 26 for sharing messages that might have disturbed communal harmony in the city. The cops had called him to give his reply but Gopalani didn’t turn up.
Gopalani recently wrote a post on his
Facebook account wherein he said: "On 24.12.2019 impromptu and without any ill-feeling and malice or without intention to create disharmony and/or enmity, I had posted a post on Facebook which synchronised with Twitter against respected doctors. Immediately when I realized my mistake, I deleted the same from Facebook but due to inadvertence the post was not deleted from Twitter."
His post further read: "There having realized my mistake, I seek apologies from one and everyone and the respected doctors in particular." The post then names all the doctors who were named in his now deleted post. Gopalani had approached
Gujarat high court for anticipatory bail. The court has asked the police to not arrest him till the next date of hearing.
DCP (crime)
Pradeepsinh Jadeja said, “Gopalani has apologized on his social media account but that won’t have any effect on our investigations.”
