Coimbatore: The narcotics intelligence bureau (NIB) - CID on Thursday arrested two youths including a college student for smuggling methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) pills and lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) stamps from Goa to conduct a rave party in Coimbatore.
Deputy superintendent of NIB-CID R Vincent and team arrested J Deepak, 23 and B Srijith, 21, of Palakkad in Kerala from Nava India after receiving a tip-off. “Srijith is a BSc Electronics student in a private college at Nava India and Deepak is a Bsc Computer Science graduate. We seized 10 grams and 200 milligrams of MDMA pills and 20 LSD stamps. They were selling one milligram MDMA pills to youths for Rs 2,000,” a police officer said.
Preliminary inquiry revealed that the duo had attended the rave party held at a resort in Sethumadai near Pollachi last May. A team led by police superintendent Sujit Kumar had busted the party and detained 163 youths, mostly IT employees and college students, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka. Police had seized cocaine, hash, MDMA, ganja and alcohol. However, the duo managed to escape from the resort.
“The duo was planning to organize a rave party in Coimbatore and with the help of their friends, smuggled the drugs to Coimbatore from Goa via Bengaluru and Kerala. Two more youths are absconding,” said Vincent. “MDMA is a synthetic drug, which alters mood. It is commonly called ecstasy or Molly. Its use leads to liver, kidney and heart failure.”
