JAIPUR: The protest at Kanwat village in Sikar following the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl continued for the second day on Thursday and was called off later in the evening when few of the demands were met.
The family of the victim has refused to cremate the minor till their demands are met. The family and the locals had demanded action against police officials and monetary compensation. An 11-member team comprising policemen and district administration officials were holding talks with the victim’s family and finally on Thursday evening a compromise was reached.
Sikar SP, Gagandeep Singla said, “An enquiry will be conducted into the allegations of the victim’s family about the role of the local police in the matter. The SHO of Thoi police station, Sangeeta Meena will work at Range IG office till the enquiry is completed. A compensation of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the family and we will send a proposal to the government for additional Rs 20 lakh compensation.” The charge-sheet in the case will also be prepared at the earliest, said police.
After the demands were met, the family took the victim’s body from front of the police station where they had been protesting and her funeral will be done on Friday morning.
