Fleeing bootleggers in SUV hit cop’s car

Rajkot: A bootlegger was booked for attempt to murder when he rammed his SUV loaded with IMFL bottles into a cop’s private car in Chela village on Jamnagar bypass on Thursday.
Cops were on a lookout in Chela village, after they had received a tip-off about the liquor-laden SUV. When cops intercepted the SUV, the bootlegger tried to flee and rammed into the car where constable Rushirajsinh Jadeja of Jamnagar C division police station, was seated.
“After the accident, the SUV stopped and the bootleggers tried to run away. We managed to catch hold of one identified as Ramkrishna Bishnoi (28),” said inspector M J Zalu. Apart from Bishnoi, police booked Sunil Bishnoi, Pruthvirajsinh, Vijay Manek on attempt to murder charges and launched a manhunt for the absconding criminals. They abandoned the SUV at the spot which had BJP’s lotus symbol on its number plate. “We are investigating if it belonged to any BJP leader or was misuse of the party symbol. We had seized 360 IMFL bottles worth Rs 1.80 lakh from the SUV,” added Zalu.
In a similar incident, a truck loaded with IMFL bottles was seized and a bootlegger was arrested at Bamanbor GIDC near Rajkot on Wednesday night.
The truck carrying 5,346 IMFL bottles worth Rs 21.50 lakh was seized and a bootlegger identified as Harish Chaudhary (22) arrested.
