Ludhiana: The Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the civic body to file fresh status report about action taken against hotels that had no parking arrangements and that were constructed against bylaws.
A petition has been filed by a city-based activist, Rohit Sabharwal, against 109 hotels flouting the norms and in the last one week, the officials have sealed some of the hotels and had filed the report in the court. The court has now asked for updated action taken report from the officials.
The hearing in this case took place on Tuesday. The court in its orders stated that municipal coprporation (MC) submitted status report about notices served to hotels and now it is directed to submit action taken report in 15 days. The next date of hearing is February 20.
The complainant Sabharwal claimed that the drive being carried out by the officials was mere eye wash as they only targeted small hotels, leaving the big ones.
A complaint was filed against 109 illegal hotels with principal secretary who had asked the officials to survey the hotels. In 2017, a survey of these 109 hotels was conducted with the help of building branch officials. The survey pointed out that 41 hotels can be regularised while 45 were totally non compoundable and 20 hotels were either found closed or they could not find it at site while 3 hotels had some court matter.
Then RTI activist Sabharwal filed CWP in the HC in April 2018 in similar matter and acting over the same, the HC issued notice of motion to the government on May 30, 2018.
