GURUGRAM: The MCG is planning to install water meters and regularise water connections in villages and colonies within its ambit, as discussed in the first meeting of the water supply, sewerage, drainage and disposal committee chaired by the MCG commissioner on Wednesday. Around 2 lakh households have been identified for this and MCG is going to set a deadline of March 2020 to install meters, said officials.
Sources said that the civic body has to pay around Rs 8 crore every month to GMDA for supplying water to these areas. Once water supply is regularised and the residents are built for their usage, some of this financial burden will be lifted from the corporation.
“There are these big villages, like Badshapur, Jharsa, Sukhrali where water meters are not installed and water is not billed. Introducing water bills is going to help the MCG in two ways: One is that the residents would use water judiciously when they pay for water supply and the other one is that the civic body will generate revenue out of this,” said an MCG official.
“With the deadline of March, water meters will either be installed in all the households or in case the meters are not installed, water bills at a flat rate will be given to these households,” said Shakuntala Yadav, chairman of the water supply and sewerage committee.
This was the first meeting of the committee, which was constituted in 2017. The meeting of the committee was convened after the chairman of the committee, Councillor Shakuntala Yadav had written to the MCG chief stating that the committee ever since its formation has not held even a single meeting.
