CHANDIGARH: The
Punjab and Haryana high court has given no relief to
Paramjit Singh Bheora, convicted and awarded life imprisonment in
Beant Singh assassination case. The court did not allow his application seeking parole to enable him to attend
bhog ceremony of his deceased mother.
The court order reads that he was sent to attend cremation of his mother at
Cremation Ground, Mohali on January 30 and a prisoner can be sent either to attend funeral ceremony or bhog ceremony, in terms of letter/policy issued by the Punjab Government. The court order also reads, "with regard to the nature of the crime committed by the petitioner-convict, we arenot inclined to grant the relief."
He was awarded life imprisonment for the offence under Sections 302,307 IPC read with Section 120-B IPC and Sections 3 & 4 of the
Explosive Substances Act and appeal against this order is pending in court
Former chief minister Beant singh was assassinated by a suicide bomber on August 31, 1995. A Punjab police employee Dilawar Singh had acted as a human bomb in the incident.
