KOKRAJHAR: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday reviewed the preparations of the programme to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kokrajhar on February 7 to commemorate the Bodo Peace Accord signed in New Delhi on January 27.
Sonowal was accompanied by BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, state ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma, Pramila Rani Brahma and minister of state for health and family welfare Pijush Hazarika, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, ABSU president Promod Boro and other senior officials.
"The Prime Minister will attend the grand celebration of the Bodo peace accord in Kokrajhar on February 7. The Bodo problem ended after signing of the peace accord between the Centre, Assam government and four factions of NDFB, ABSU and UBPO under Modi's initiative," Sonowal said.
He added that peace will prevail in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) as well as in Assam after the new accord. He further said he had high expectations from the media fraternity to focus on the positive development in the BTC region.
Sonowal said, "The development of BTC implies the development of Assam and we are sincere and committed for implementation of all clauses of the accord in letter and spirit. The PM has always taken positive steps for speedy development of BTC and Assam."
He said the Bodo accord ushered in a new lease of hope and enthusiasm among the people and the function will be organised to convey the gratitude of the people to Modi.
Mohilary said they were going to celebrate a victory rally where at least six lakh people from BPF will gather. He said another 2 lakh people from outside BTC will attend the "historic rally". He added that ABSU had assured that at least three lakh people would attend the rally from their side.
ABSU president Promod Boro said, "Peace will prevail in the Bodo belt, after which many investers will come to the region to set up industries and real estate." He also thanked the Centre and the state government for taking sincere efforts for the solution of the Bodo problem.
