1,680 online child porn cases in State

Pune: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) of India has informed the Maharashtra police that 1,680 child pornographic material was uploaded on the internet in the last one and half month in the state.
Till now, 47 FIRs have been registered across the state including 14 cases in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. 

Superintendent of Police Balsing Rajput from Maharashtra Cyber, which the nodal state agency for coordinating with NCRB on the issue, told Sakal Times, “After getting information about 1,680 reports related to child pornographic content generated from Maharashtra, we have launched ‘Operation Blackface’. We have sent the reports to concerned police units under whose jurisdiction the contents were uploaded. The cases are being registered for offences under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Information Technology (IT) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.”

He added, “We want to make the internet a useful and safe place for children. And the people should know that if they are doing any such activities related to children, they will be caught. We are registering suo motu cases (on our own). Every day, we are taking follow up of action taken on the inputs.”

Internet service providers, as well as people, inform the NCMEC about child sexual exploitation content available on the internet.
 
The information is verified and after the location of the suspect is traced, a report is sent to the concerned nodal agency of the country (NCRB for India). 

The NCRB sends information concerned state police for further investigation. Till now, about 25,000 reports have been received by NCRB about child pornographic content posted online from India.

150 Cases in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad
FIRs have been registered one each with Hinjawadi, Alandi, Nigdi, Wakad, Chinchwad, Pimpri and two each at Sangvi and Chakan police stations under jurisdiction of Pimpri Chinchwad police. Under Pune city police, four FIRs have been registered. About 150 cases of child pornography content being uploaded are suspected to have been done in Pune district, officials said.
