DNA test nails ‘rapist’ father in Jamnagar village

Rajkot: DNA test of a 16-year-old rape survivor’s fetus has exposed the unspeakable trauma that she was subjected to by none other than her own father.
The test revealed that the girl was repeatedly raped by her 55-year-old father after he had caught her red-handed in a compromising position with her cousin brother two months ago.
The crime was reported from a village adjoining Jamnagar city. The man, father of four - two girls and two boys - was arrested on Thursday following the test results and statement of his daughter given to police.
Two months ago, the girl’s family lodged a complaint of rape against her cousin brother after she became pregnant and revealed her six-month-old love affair. He was arrested then. He will continue to face rape charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso).
The girl decided to abort the fetus when she was 12 weeks pregnant and the abortion was done at a government hospital. At the same time, she had lodged the complaint.
Police then conducted DNA test of her fetus and that of her cousin. To their surprise, the two DNAs did not match.
This made the cops suspicious that they questioned her in detail. “The girl broke down and told us that her father had caught her in a compromising position with her cousin two months ago. Instead of reprimanding her, he also started sexually assaulting her,” said D P Chudasama, sub-inspector with Jamnagar Panchkoshi A division police station.
“We then sent her father to Gandhinagar for the DNA test. After his DNA matched with that of the fetus, we arrested him for the rape,” said Chudasama.
Police claimed that the man has confessed to raping his daughter several times.
