Gujarat: Three persons arrested in Junagadh groundnut scam

RAJKOT: Junagadh crime branch arrested three persons in connection with replacing groundnut stock of inferior quality in the warehouse where the groundnut stock of superior quality was stored procured at minimum support price (MSP) by government agency. The scam was busted on 1st February after a farmer’s body represented to the district administration with this allegation.
The police arrested Pratik Sojitra (36) a trader, Keshu Vagadia (61) doing private job and Ramesh Makwana (42) a contractor. They have allegedly made the fraud of Rs 2.38 lakh. According to police these accused entered into the Junagadh market yard on the night of 29th January, covered the CCTV camera and replace the good quality groundnut stock with inferior quality. Junagadh Superintendent of police Saurabh Singh said “These people are booked under various sections of IPC including 406, 420 and 120 (B).”
The Gujarat has registered the record break production of groundnut this year. The state government is procuring the groundnut at MSP of Rs 1000 per 20 KG nearly Rs 100 higher then market price. The government only procure the groundnut of superior quality.
