January 2020 was a very poor month in terms of new vehicle sales. Not only was the overall sales figure lower than that registered just 12 months prior, but it also laid the foundation of what we can expect in the coming 11 months.

Still, automakers did their bit to sell as many vehicles as possible. In what is no surprise, Toyota sold 8234 new vehicles in South Africa last month, followed by the Volkswagen o 7944 units.

Ford came to the party and registered 4147 new vehicles to owners. Nissan and Hyundai were neck-in-neck, but the former got the better of its Korean counterpart: 2894 units vs. 2849. They were followed by Renault on 2482 units.

Suzuki made a big impact on the sales charts and registered 1632 new vehicles to owners. This is very impressive, given that they’ve beat the mighty Mercedes-Benz on 1414 units.

Kia sold the ninth most vehicles on 1358 units, while Haval, again, surpassed the 1000-mark by 83 units. This was undoubtedly helped by the addition of the new H2.
