THANE: Two persons were recently convicted of insulting an on-duty traffic policeman by hurling abuses at him. The two were fined Rs 5,000. One of the convicted men had spat out the words "police chor" in anger.
Additional sessions judge Shailendra Tambe convicted Gangaprasad Yadav (37) and Ajinkya Bhor (24) under Sec 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC. Yadav was also convicted under Sec 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC.
Additional public prosecutor Sandhya Jadhav submitted before the court that the complainant, head constable Devidas Tayde, was on duty on October 25, 2018, with another traffic constable at Kamgar Naka in the vicinity of Wagle E.
At 10.30 am, Yadav was found riding a scooter without a helmet and Tayde asked him to pay a Rs 500 fine.
Tayde said Yadav refused and abused him. He said Yadav manhandled him.
Bhor was found driving without licence and was abusive, said Tayde.
