MUMBAI: A 51-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide by slitting his throat with a knife in full public view in Kherwadi area on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at around 10.45am and 11.15am when Mahendra Raut, who resides in the same building, went upstairs reportedly to end his life in inebriated state.
Locals called the police control room after witnessing Raut on the terrace of Building No 43 of PWD Quarters.
“After noticing the people are looking at him, he pulled out a knife and placed it on his throat,” said a police officer.
Locals called the police that reached the spot in no time.
“Before the police team could reach upstairs, Raut slit his throat," the officer added.
He was rushed to VN Desai Hospital. Kherwadi police are waiting for Raut’s recovery to record his statement.
"Doctors said that he will survive. The reason behind his act is still not known,” said senior inspector Shashikant Bhandare.
