Woolworths supermarket issues an urgent nationwide recall of a popular pesto due to fears it may cause a severe allergic reaction

Woolworths has issued an urgent recall of a popular pesto due to fears it may cause a severe allergic reaction.
The supermarket giant announced in a statement on Thursday the recall of Woolworths Italian Style Basil Pesto due to possible presence of peanuts.

The sauce's packaging does not list the ingredient as an allergen in the product and it is sold in stores around the country.
'Consumers should return the product to their nearest Woolworths Supermarket or Metro store for a full refund,' the statement read.
'Any customers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
'Woolworths takes product safety seriously and apologises for any inconvenience caused by this recall. Customers can call the toll-free customer service number for more information on 1800 103 515.'
Last week, Woolworths recalled the Providore Italian Tomatoes and Grana Padano Cheese Pesto, under the same circumstances.
Aldi and Coles have also recently announced major recalls of pesto products feared to contain peanuts.
In January, Aldi announced a recall of Remano Basil Pesto 190g and Remano Sun-dried Tomato Pesto 190g sauce jars.
Coles recalled Coles Italia Pesto al Basilico 290gm on January 31 for items with a best before date of 28/08/2021.
On Thursday, a second batch of the Coles-brand pesto recalled, applying to products with a best before date of 24/09/2021.
