Road rage assault leaves man with damaged eye

Pune: An optometrist was brutally assaulted by four persons near Mundhwa chowk in the wee hours of Sunday when they questioned them for allegedly driving a car dangerously. The optometrist’s eye has been damaged in the attack.
 
The Pune city police have arrested three persons in the case. 

According to an FIR registered with Hadapsar police, the incident took place at around 2 am on Sunday. Satish Wankhede and Akshay Dnyaneshwar Jadhav (24), were riding a bike, while accused persons were in the car. Wankhede and Jadhav work in Pune. Wankhede has completed a course of optometry but is not working in the medical field at present. 

Senior Police Inspector Ramesh Sathe, in-charge of Hadapsar police station, said, “The victims were going from Koregaon Park while the car was coming from Mundhwa. Wankhede was riding pillion. At Tadigutha Chowk turn, they almost collided and had arguments. The victims sped away but the accused persons intercepted them near Cult House (night club) and blocked their way. They used a sharp weapon to assault Wankhede. He is still in a hospital and has sustained injuries on one eye, shoulder and back.” 

After getting information from the hospital, the police reached the hospital and a search was launched.

 A team led by Assistant Police Inspector Prasad Lonare from the detection branch zeroed in on the suspect car after checking 32 CCTVs footage. Teams were sent to various locations in Mumbai and Pune and within 48 hours, three accused were arrested. 

The police have identified the accused as Yogesh Chandrakant Hanmane (24) of Solapur, Ritesh Ambadas Jadhav (21) and Avinash Sunil Gaikwad (22), both residents of Keshavnagar, Mundhwa. Gaikwad and Hanmane are cab drivers, while Jadhav is a student. The fourth suspect who is yet to be nabbed works with a pizza delivery firm. 

On Wednesday, the arrested accused person’s were produced before a judicial magistrate court, which remanded them to three-day police custody for further investigation.
 
DCP (Zone 5) Suhas Bawche and ACP Sunil Kalgutkar supervised the investigation team which included head constable Ramesh Sable, and constables Anil Kusalkar, Amit Kamble, Vijay Pawar, Dnyaneshwar Chitte and Prashant Narsale.
