JAIPUR: In a move to promote road safety especially of two-wheeler riders, the state government on Wednesday declared to distribute free
helmet with the purchase of two-wheelers from April 1.
These helmets would be distributed on every purchase of scooters and motorbikes by the dealers across the state. The announcement came while the state government is on the verge of implementing the Amended Motor Vehicles Act, 2019 in the state with increased penalties.
State transport minister,
Pratap Singh Khachariyawas held a meeting with the automobile dealers along with the officials of his department.
“Any person buying a new motorcycle, scooter or any other two-wheeler in Rajasthan would be provided ISI-marked helmet free by the dealers of motorbike and scooter. We had a meeting in this regard in which all the dealers have given their consent to it,” Khachariyawas said while talking to TOI.
Khachariyawas added that this has been made mandatory for the dealers of two-wheelers.
“The number of persons getting killed while driving two-wheelers without helmet is very high and is a big matter of concern for the government. We are aiming at reducing these accidents and this will also help us to ensure 100 per cent compliance of wearing helmets by two-wheeler riders across the state,” he added.
All representatives of automobile dealer companies were present in the meeting chaired by the minister and officials including transport commissioner
Rajesh Yadav and others at Transport Bhawan.
