Coimbatore: The district school education department on Wednesday suspended a teacher of a government school in Annur block after he was arrested by police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The Thudiyalur all women police had arrested 50-year-old S Natarajan last Saturday based on a complaint that he harassed a 12-year-old girl student.
“As it has been more than 48 hours since he was arrested, he was suspended,” chief education officer P Ayyannan said.
According to police sources, Natarajan had been working in a government school in Annur for the last 23 years. “The incident occurred between December 5 and January 30. He had touched the victim inappropriately and threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident,” a police officer said.
The teacher was arrested after the girl’s father filed a complaint.
