CT City blow as Erasmus ruled out for two months

2020-02-05 07:01

Cape Town – Absa Premiership side Cape Town City have been dealt a major setback with the news that striker Kermit Erasmus will be sidelined for two months.

Erasmus limped off in City's 1-1 draw to Maritzburg United last week clutching his hamstring.

And now the Citizens' worst fears have been confirmed with scans revealing a grade two hamstring tear.

"Kermit Erasmus has suffered a suspected hamstring muscle tear and will be out of action for approximately 2 months," City revealed on their official Twitter account.

It is a cruel blow for the 29-year-old Erasmus, who started the season so strongly and looked in the best shape he had in years after a solid pre-season, only to have his progress curtailed by a series of injuries.

Erasmus has been tasked with leading the Citizens' line on his own this season and that responsibility will now lie with either Siphelele Mthembu or Fagrie Lakay.

The Citizens are back in action on Sunday away to Mbombela United in a Nedbank Cup Round of 32 clash.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
