Middendorp confirms Khune, Billiat in squad for Eagles clash

2020-02-05 13:05

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has confirmed that Khama Billiat, Itumeleng Khune, and Anthony Akumu will be in the squad against Royal Eagles.

Amakhosi will host the Nedbank Cup round of 32 tie at FNB Stadium on Saturday and many supporters are hoping to see Billiat and Khune back in the fray after spells on the sideline due to injury - while watching new signing Akumu in action for the first time is also an exciting prospect.

However, Middendorp has explained that even though his squad is back to full strength there are no guarantees these players will get a chance against the Eagles.

"So far‚ I'm aware that these questions are coming so let me put it straight in - Anthony Akumu will be in the squad‚ and Khama Billiat will be in the squad too. 'Itu' Khune will also be in the squad‚" Middendorp told the press, as quoted by Sowetan Live.

"It will be the core of the players we have used in the PSL. We had no competitive game last week.

"(But) we will not set up because everybody deserves (a game).

"If it is Itu‚ Khama‚ whoever - please‚ we have a respectable team and squad for selection and sometimes players must wait for their opportunity‚ and whenever it is right."

The cup tie will get underway at 18h00 on Saturday as Chiefs eye a spot in the last 16.
