They said the gases emitted by agro-chemical, pesticide and other chemical industries for several years now had been affecting them.

Earlier, in 2013, a green rain in the area in 2013, raising questions over pollution.
"These problems have raised a question mark on the effectiveness of the pollution control policies and action of the state government's various agencies concerned," an activist, Raju Nalavade, said.

After locals complained to the authorities, a team of MPCB officials visited the spot on Wednesday and collected samples from the roads that had changed colour.

The MPCB officers and MIDC staff also used water tankers to clean the roads, but the pink colour would not go away easily.
