Ludhiana: As many as 1,001 non-teaching staff, including 197 women and 774 men will cast their vote for contendors to 15 seats. The election will be held from 9am onwards until 4pm on Wednesday at the examination hall in ballot papers.
For elections of PAU Employees Union, teams of PAU Employees Forum from Mango and Cycle groups organised a massive rally outside the university’s Engineering College and Thapar Hall on Tuesday afternoon. Balvir Singh, chairman of the Election Committee, said, “As many as 1,001 non-teaching staff, including 197 women and 774 men will cast their vote for 15 seats. We have instructed for the conduct of a smooth election, without any hooliganism.”
Baldev Singh Walia, president of the Mango group, appealed to employees to cast their votes, and said he would continue to work for the employees and their demands. He said, “We will strive for implementation of the old pension scheme for employees recruited before July 9, 2012, increasing the number of posts of agriculture field officer, reducing the years of experience required for promotion to AFO, increasing grade pay of library attendants, and meteorology attendant from Rs1,900 to Rs2,400, settle cases of anomaly, get all promotional posts and vacant posts of store-keepers filled, and regularise contract staff.”
Harjeet Singh Khant, president of the Cycle group, too appealed to all the employees to cast their votes. Khant, senior assistant, dean, College of Agriculture, said, “We will follow a new pension scheme, where we can convert self-created funds, which is applicable in Punjab, except PAU. Besides this, we will revive the number system in confidential reports. Also, promotions will be done on the basis of seniority. We will help to increase personal loan schemes, and not allow the university to work for six days a week, besides following the Punjab government calendar.”
